TAC Campus Ministry

This ministry came into inception in the month of August 1999 through the advice of our TAC President Rev.P.Tevaraji. TAC has been observing that it was losing many students to other churches and was unable to tap the potential of these students. Moreover, it was brought to attention that some were not attending any churches or their campus Christian Fellowships while they were studying. As time progress they become more influenced with the teachings and ways of this world. Therefore, there is an urgent need to enhance their faith and bring them back to the fold.

The students felt that no avenue was given to them to be part of the church ministry and due to that they do not have any sense of belonging to TAC. The biggest concern was that the TAC churches were not sensitive to their needs and did not care for them while they were still studying. Besides that, there is also the language problem especially in churches where they are more inclined to use only Tamil language in their worship services. Today most of the Indian students not forgetting the TAC church going students converse in English rather than Tamil. They are more comfortable worshipping in English.

The other denominations are also emphasizing student ministry and cater to the needs of these students. They provide an avenue for the students to express their talents and gifting. Care and concern are shown through visitation even by Pastors and leaders to the homes of these students. It is definitely an attraction to the students who are in need, which provides them an alternative compared to TAC churches.

With this in mind, Campus Ministry was formed hoping to make the students realize the goal of TAC and in the process enable them to be effective Christians who will come back to the church after their studies and contribute their talents towards the extension of God's kingdom.

What began as the Organizing Committee, took form into an official working committee on 21st January 2001 during a sharing session in the presence of the Youth Director and the General Secretary of TAC. The committee felt that it was necessary to come out with this working paper to pave the way for establishing it as one of the many ministries under the TAC umbrella hoping that in some ways we can reach out to the students of our congregation specifically and at large.

The committee has taken efforts to highlight as much as possible the concerns and cares of this ministry. We hope that in a little way we will make a mark in the history of making a dream come through. This dream that was formed in the minds of many leaders of the past and present, the dream to start students' ministry under TAC has finally come to a reality. The task at hand is to keep the spark going. Let us join hands and in prayer; one heart, mind and spirit let this spark catch on fire and become a big flame that will light the hearts of many students of today and tomorrow.
